For my next story I graphed  all in and out school activities of my 8 year old son

Parents try to give their children as many tools as possible in order to contribute to their human development. There are various areas of human development that kids gain either from school or from outsourcing activities.Teachers and parents always talk about how the kids can be respectful, how to respect themselves as well as the others. All of us parents think that we are successful by helping children to develop qualities such as honesty, empathy, self-control, self-reliance, cooperation, cheerfulness and kindness.

On the occasion that matters,I wanted to take the opportunity to collect all of my 8 years son activities in data sets and try to see the impact of his weekly activities ,reflections and consequences on his personality.

Providing him with outsourcing school activities on a weekly basis apart from the school schedule, my goal is, being a caregiver parent, to  make him feel constructive, productive and self-confident. What I want to point out is his satisfactory level and also to try to measure the impact of those activities towards his development skills.

Knowing well his weekly school schedule and also all the activities he attends during the week, I tried to set my own data set. I added all the numerical and categorical variables in a csv format file and organized it with all the useful values.

The story interests me personally, because I’m at the center of it. It  is a challenge  for me and also for any parent, who has a child with similar weekly schedule to try to understand if such relevant activities reflect positive on his development. Moreover, that would also be valuable for parents or researchers to understand, if a child demonstrates a progress in terms of his satisfaction level .I managed to visualize the impact of being parent for a child that deals with those activities. Finally that visualization could also be useful and inspire people or companies that offer similar outsourcing school activities and can measure the influence or the impact of those benefits.

Below are 3 charts which show my visualizations of my data set:

What I wanted to do further regarding that story was to try to show a timeline chart in order to show more activities that he is engaging during the time. Actually I wanted to compare his first grade with his second one to see what changes happened between those years, as he changed school and neighborhood at the same time. But I didn’t have enough time to collect and distribute all those data sets. In the future I’m considering adding dashboard having all those three charts together in order to have a better consistency with the values and colors.

To make my visualization charts, I graphed my data set using a Tree map chart as I needed to illustrate what portion of my kid’s week is activity type or engagement level.

Using a Donut chart I illustrated my son’s activities by measuring how he satisfied he feels according the in out school activities he gets from his parents and his school.

Finally I used a Bubble chart, as I tried to pointed out the numbers of the activities he demonstrates on a daily and on a weekend basis and I tried to show, how these activities reflect his development.Through the tool tips I traced the frequency of his activities, I categorized depending on when he is engaging with those activities during the week and I added some short of annotations regarding the impact of each activity separately.
